The responsibilities of executive directors for small non-profit organizations extend far beyond what is typically expected of an ED. You are required to multitask, adapt on the fly, and address a wide range of challenges while simultaneously facing ongoing demands and pressures from various stakeholders, including your board, donors, and even your staff. The persistent expectations can be overwhelming, making it difficult to focus on long-term goals and strategic initiatives.
Instead of having conversations about roles and responsibilities or setting healthy boundaries, it is common to freeze up, avoid, or feel stuck. This can ultimately lead to burnout and the risk of leaving an organization that you are more than equipped to lead.
While conversations like these can feel daunting, they don’t have to. This workshop is designed to guide individuals and teams so they feel confident in navigating these critical conversations. Through a combination of guided exercises and discussions, participants will:
- Define and Identify Edges: Understand what organizational “edges” are (limits, boundaries of current capability or culture) and recognize the signs when the organization is approaching or resisting them.
- Explore Specific Edges: Unpack the specific challenges facing your organization.
- Develop Strategies: Create and implement practical, resilient strategies for critical conversations.
- Commit to Accountability and Community around Critical Conversations: Foster lasting change by engaging with peers for reflection, sharing, and navigating change.
Format:
- An active 2‑hour workshop with guided exercises and discussion.
- Enrollment is limited to 14 participants.
- Pre-assessment: to maximize the workshop’s effectiveness and tailor the content, our facilitator, Nicole Garrett, will contact registrants in advance to conduct a brief pre-assessment.
