Old Bill's Fun Run
About, Details, Times, & Map
Twenty-one years ago, an anonymous, philanthropic couple, fondly known as Mr. and Mrs. Old Bill, envisioned a collaborative event that would support all local nonprofits and provide both competition and entertainment. For the first time, organizations came together in an efficient, unified fundraiser that raised awareness of community needs. Over the last two decades, more than $146 million has been raised for local organizations, and it has inspired similar events around the country.
About Old Bill's Fun Run
Run day – which includes a 5K fun run/walk and a 5K or 10K timed run accompanied by free breakfast and fun, informational nonprofit booths – is an annual celebration of philanthropy and Jackson’s passion for outdoor activity. It is a community-wide gala: good-spirited, free, and most of all, effective.
Run day is not tied to fundraising, but the celebration remains the most visible way for the community to learn about Jackson Hole nonprofits and their important work. Prizes in the timed run are donated to winners’ charities of choice, and there is food, entertainment, and plenty of socializing.
Everyone is welcome to join in, show support for, and learn more about Jackson Hole’s nonprofits. Participation requires only your presence and a willingness to have fun! Run/Walk Registration is free if you register before the day of the event.
Online Registration opens on August 1st.

How Does the Old Bill's Event Raise Money?
The run itself is not tied directly to fundraising. It’s simply a festive outdoor event to celebrate philanthropy, community spirit, and the hard work of local nonprofits. Money is raised before, during and after the run via the following two methods:
Each year, Mr. and Mrs. Old Bill kick off fundraising by challenging the community with a $500,000 donation the the match pool. The Community Foundation solicits additional matching fund contributions from Co-Challengers, who donate at levels ranging from $25,000 to $250,000, augmenting the match pool available for Old Bill’s matching grants. The rest of the funds raised are responses to campaigns by qualified local nonprofits participating in Old Bill’s. Individuals make just one gift, of any size, and designate one or more charities of their choice. The Community Foundation tracks each nonprofit’s designated gifts separately. Donors can also contribute to the match if they want to support all participating nonprofits. Learn more about how to give through Old Bill’s.
How Do the Funds
Raised Help Nonprofits?
After all the money is in, the Community Foundation disburses 100% of funds designated to specific nonprofits to them and matches a certain amount at a varied percentage rate in matching grants. The total amount donated to each charity by the community is supplemented with these matching grants from the Match Pool (donations from Mr. and Mrs. Old Bill, Co-Challengers and Friends of the Match). The matching grants that organizations receive are based upon gifts designated to them and the amount in the Match Pool.
