Governing the Organization: Roles & Responsibilities of Nonprofit Directors

November 11 at 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM

$25.00

ZOOM SESSION LED BY LYNN FLEISCHER, PHD, JD

People join nonprofit boards for many reasons: to volunteer for a good cause, to meet like-minded individuals, to build their resumes, to have fun. But they often fail to recognize the legal responsibilities inherent to this role. Nonprofit boards have a variety of legal obligations that must be met if the organization is to thrive and fulfill its charitable purposes.

In this workshop, participants will take a look at the roles and responsibilities of directors of nonprofit organizations, particularly charitable organizations. These include their obligations as fiduciaries, the requirement to maintain confidentiality, and the need to avoid conflicts of interest. Dr. Fleischer will also lead the group in a discussion about the board’s role in managing the organization – the dos and don’ts of governance – and how this role changes as the organization matures.
