OVER 8 MILLION REASONS TO CELEBRATE
Old Bill’s Smashes Previous Record.
JACKSON, WY October 22, 2012 — Though dreary outside, the crowd of nonprofit representatives and other community members inside the National Museum of Wildlife Art on Monday evening was bright and cheery. This year’s Old Bill’s Awards Party marked the 16th anniversary of this unique, collaborative fundraising event that helps over 200 groups provide critical programming in Jackson.
“Old Bill’s brings out the very best kind of competitive spirit in all of us,” observed Katharine Conover, President of the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole. “Together, we’ve managed not only to surpass all previous records, but to crush them. The community’s commitment to all nonprofits pushes us to strive harder every year to show our support.”
This year, Mr. and Mrs. Old Bill, 45 Co-Challengers and the Friends of the Match contributed $2,389,314, the highest match in the history of the event, to challenge the community. A total of 2,915 donors responded by giving an additional $5,963,639 in designated contributions for an incredible total of $8,352,953 — $602,841 more than in 2011. These results provided for a 55% matching grant to all eligible nonprofits with an almost 8% increase in overall funding. With 510 people donating to their cause, Fire/EMS had the most donors in 2012. Over the lifetime of the event, Old Bill’s has raised nearly $91 million dollars to benefit local charities.
Run day itself was also a huge success, with over 3,600 people walking, running and wheeling in the event. Over 100 nonprofit organizations manned booths on the Square, with Jackson Hole Children’s Museum and Teton Botanical Garden catching the eye of many in attendance. A group from Horse Warriors carrying horse-shaped signs with words of encouragement and the ballerinas from Dancers’ Workshop who choreographed a moving booth complete with neon tutus were the two costume winners.
