C-V Ranch
Community & Art Inspire Special Needs Youth

Arts opportunities are extremely beneficial to C-V students combating issues with self-esteem, motivation, depression and anger. Not only do these programs promote confidence and enrich students’ lives, but they also enhance students’ attitudes about themselves and their futures, increase academic achievement and decrease delinquent behavior. This grant will fund a collaborative project among C-V and local arts organizations, bringing Jackson artists and instructors to the school for a series of multi-disciplinary workshops. Competitive grant dollars will fund weekly classes during the 2011-2012 school year, including instruction in drawing, photography, painting, dance and music.

InterConnections 21
Global Education in Teton County

Citizenship skills and understanding of global issues are critical for participation in civic life and the rapidly changing world economy. InterConnections 21 has worked closely with local schools and educators since 2006 to organize Teton County Model UN annually and to ensure that the conference meets their needs. Given current economic conditions, Teton County is at risk of losing this rare opportunity for local youth. Grant funds will be used for scholarships for five Model UN Club members and for general event operating costs including food, speaker fees, advertising, and registration fees.

Jackson Hole Children’s Museum/The Clubhouse
The Climber

During inclement weather, finding cost effective opportunities for indoor play and learning is difficult for families in Jackson. Jackson Hole Children’s Museum is a unique environment, designed specifically to engage children from infancy to age ten in developmentally appropriate enrichment activities. A grant from the Community Foundation will fund The Climber, an exhibit that includes a variety of structures such as climbing walls, mutli‐level platforms and nooks of varied materials, heights and sizes, slides, gym bars, ladders, tunnels and more. The exhibit is modular, flexible and easily restructured in unique variations, allowing the museum to constantly introduce families to a new exhibit that builds core strength, interpersonal skills and imagination.

Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival
TEDx Jackson Hole

The Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival brings together ideas and experiences connecting this special place with the world through inspirational media documentation. A grant from the Community Foundation will help fund the TEDx (Technology, Entertainment, Design) Jackson Hole, a public event in October designed to inspire, engage, challenge, and unify the community through presentations including, 3D imaging from deep within Jackson Lake filmed with robotic submersibles, first-ever footage of a never before contacted culture in Brazil, information on new discoveries in marine animal fluorescence, and communication and coverage of the summer’s discoveries from the excavation of a massive 20,000-year old mammoth/mastadon site in Colorado.

Latino Resource Center
Jackson Hole Plaza Comunitaria

Research shows a clear correlation between a parent’s education level and their child’s academic success. In the Teton County Head Start program, ninety-five percent of children have Spanish-speaking parents, many of whom are poorly educated. A grant from the Community Foundation will support the Jackson Hole Plaza Comunitaria program, targeting Spanish-speaking parents in order to increase their education levels so they can better support their children’s academic success.

Promoting Creative Thinking in the Schools

Jackson Hole is a vibrant community with many opportunities to explore the arts. By connecting artists with teachers of math, history, science, and language arts, students have the unique opportunity to learn through a hands-on, project-based approach. It is through creative thinking that students are able to acquire well-rounded skills and succeed in a wide array of academic disciplines. A grant from the Community Foundation will provide funding for the continual success of pARTners’ Grants and Integrated Arts Programs.

Teton Literacy Center (TLC)
Sustainable Volunteer-based Youth Tutoring

Since its inception in 2008, Teton Literacy Center’s Youth Program has tripled in size every year, outpacing their ability to efficiently manage the rapid growth. Additionally, more students with learning disabilities, mental health challenges, and disruptive home lives that interfere with their ability to excel in school are referred. This grant will fund the purchase of more sophisticated computers with software to communicate with and provide resources for volunteer tutors. It will also allow TLC to hire a part-time program assistant and increase the position of Youth Program Director from part-time to full-time.
