Available Scholarships

The Community Foundation of Jackson Hole promotes philanthropy in Jackson Hole.  Many of our donors choose to give back to the community through scholarships for local youth.  The following scholarships are operated through the Community Foundation and represent a combined gift of $56,000 to the Jackson Hole Community. 2008 scholarship awards will be announced at the annual Scholarship Night, held at the Jackson Hole High School Auditorium, May 19, 2008 at 6:30 pm.  Notification letters to all applicants will follow.

Application forms and instructions are available at the Jackson Hole High School Counseling Office.  All scholarship applications for programs administered by the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole are due in the Community Foundation office February 29, 2008.  Contact information for the Community Foundation and the Counseling Office is listed below.  A descriptive list of programs administered by the Community Foundation follows.

COMMUNITY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS

The following descriptions are provided for general information. 

Additional criteria and specific application requirements are available through the Jackson Hole High School Counseling Office.

 

BUFFALO VALLEY SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is made possible by an anonymous donor and given to students who reside in Buffalo Valley (83013 zip code).  Applicants must be well-rounded, planning to attend a two or four year colleges, demonstrate financial need, and show a history of public service, community spirit and capable academic performance.  One scholarships of $6,000.00 will be awarded over four years.

EAA YOUNG EAGLES FLIGHT SCHOLARSHIP

In addition to academic scholarships, the Community Foundation provides opportunities for young people to pursue their dreams outside the classroom.  The EAA Young Eagles Flight Scholarship was created by a group of individuals who wanted to give students the chance to learn how to fly.  This scholarship covers the full cost of instruction and materials for two students to obtain their private pilot’s license, a value of approximately $6,000.00 each.

LEVI DOWELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established in memory of Levi Dowell.  The scholarship program’s intent is to recognize a student who possesses a spirit and interests similar to Levi’s.  The student must be a graduating senior from any high school in Teton County.  The scholarship award amount is $500.00.  This award is for freshman year of college only; nonrenewable. 

MAYSIE REACH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This memorial award is given by the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce in memory of Jackson Hole High School graduate, Maysie Reach.  This scholarship is awarded on the basis of financial need.  Preference will be given to those students pursuing business administration majors and who have taken part in some extra curricular activities while in high school. This scholarship award amount is $1,000.00.

TED JONKE MEMORIAL SOCCER SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship program provides one scholarship to a graduating senior who is a member of the soccer team and will be pursuing an undergraduate degree.  This award is based on academic performance, community service, and participation in and passion for the sport of soccer.  This scholarship award amount is $4,000.00 over four years.

TETON PINES COUNTRY CLUB SCHOLARSHIP

These scholarships are awarded to employees or children of employees at Teton Pines Country Club in Wilson, Wyoming. The funds must be used for higher education. There are no restrictions for declared major. Scholarships are awarded yearly and are renewable for multiple years (up to $10,000 maximum per-student award). Graduate study scholarships are also available.

JACKSON HOLE FINE ARTS SCHOLARSHIP       

This scholarship is awarded to a student or students planning to major in the performing arts (instrumental music, vocal performances, drama or dance) at a school of his or her choice.  The recipient(s) will be decided by an audition.  The award amount for this scholarship is $4,000.00 over four years.

KATIE TAPP MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Katie Tapp Memorial Scholarship Fund annually awards a scholarship to a graduating high school senior.  Scholarships are awarded to students entering the fields of mathematics, science and/or engineering and may be used at any approved and accredited college or university.  The award amount for this scholarship is $8,000.00 over four years.
