Once upon a time in Jackson Hole, a handful of visionaries dreamed of a single facility that would house all the arts. There were those who scoffed at the idea, claiming that it would take an act of magic to achieve such a structure. But we believed. We had both grown up playing the piano, painting, dancing, singing in choirs, playing in bands and performing on stage; we wanted to see the kids in Jackson enjoy the same opportunities.
Our involvement with Center for the Arts began when The Community Foundation introduced us to a group of people with similar aspirations. We knew the idea had incredible potential. The center would have art studios, galleries and dance centers, providing a creative venue for people of all ages. It would include a performing arts pavilion, housing a first-rate theatre, music center and rehearsal space that fosters artistic excellence and exposes children and families to wonderful performing artists.
For thirteen years we have joined that band of visionaries dedicated to turning the dream into a reality. We spent countless hours researching and debating technical details and design priorities. We knew there were other wonderful philanthropic opportunities in the valley, but this one was where we wanted to focus our efforts. As time went on, many new supporters emerged.
In March 2007, the 500 seat Center Theater transported us to Neverland. Captain Hook and his pirates, the Lost Boys and the Croc with a clock were played by a hundred local children. Even those of us who were not adoring parents or grandparents were awed by this spectacular show.
When the curtain rose that night, not only Tinker Bell was flying high. We were on Cloud Nine–without the use of Pixie Dust.
