Welcome to dog town!

In Jackson, dogs are everywhere you look – sitting outside the Pearl Street Bagels door, running on Cache Creek trail, sprinting down a backcountry ski run on the Teton Pass, greeting

visitors in the office or simply following their owners down the sidewalk. We love our furry friends. However, the growing number of dogs in town is increasing incidents of wildlife disturbance, uncollected dog waste, excessive barking, canine neglect, and aggression towards people and other dogs.

In response to these situations, PAWS developed the Responsible Dog Ownership of Jackson Hole (RDOG) initiative to address the root of the problems – the lack of responsible dog ownership. The program focuses on increasing awareness about the responsibilities inherent in owning a dog, educating owners on the basic tenets of responsible ownership and providing additional training opportunities.

With almost as many office dogs as staff, The Community Foundation clearly appreciates the importance of dogs to our quality of life. We recognize the value of helping owners understand their responsibilities and of establishing common standards for acceptable behavior and treatment of dogs. Through this grant, The Community Foundation supports PAWS' efforts to develop a comprehensive approach to educating dog owners and ensuring that our faithful companions are happy, well-behaved dogs who positively contribute to our wellbeing and the character of Jackson Hole.
