Information on Charitable Giving


American Institute of Philanthropy — a national charity watchdog service whose purpose is to help donors make informed giving decisions.

Network for Good — a nonprofit organization that helps people get more involved in their communities — from volunteering and donating money, to speaking out on issues.

The National Center for Charitable Statistics — serves as the national repository of statistical information on the nation’s not-for-profit sector. Information is obtained from the Internal Revenue Service and other agencies.

National Center for Family Philanthropy — focuses on matters of importance to families engaged in philanthropy and how they can make their giving more effective.

The Newtithing Group
— a not-for-profit philanthropic research organization committed to increasing charitable giving and personal fulfillment by providing online educational resources and planning tools.

Giving USA Foundation - a collection of philanthropic resources.

Women’s Philanthropy Institute — an educational resource for women and professionals who wish to encourage women as donors.


International Giving Website

United States International Grantmaking (USIG) is a project of the Council on Foundations in partnership with the International Center for Not-For-Profit Law. The USIG project facilitates effective and responsible international grantmaking by U.S. foundations.


Guides to and Information about Community Foundations and Non-Profits

The Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA) — an international, interdisciplinary membership organization that includes scholars and not-for-profit leaders fostering the creation, application and dissemination of research on voluntary action, nonprofit organizations, philanthropy and civil society.

Center for the Study of Philanthropy at City University of New York — provides information on world-wide philanthropy, including multicultural, international and women’s philanthropy.

Charity Navigator — provides objective analysis of the financial health of more than 2,100 of the nation’s largest charities.

Council on Foundations — a not-for-profit membership association for the nation’s grantmaking foundations and corporations.

The Foundation Center — provides educational and informational resources on philanthropy for the general public, as well as help for grantseekers in identifying appropriate funders and developing targeted proposals.

Guidestar — a searchable database, providing information about the programs and finances of more than 850,000 IRS-recognized not-for-profit organizations, including The Community Foundation and The Foundation's 990s.
