Friends of Pathways

Reducing User Conflicts

$2,800

Friends of Pathways works to reduce user conflicts in the most heavily used areas on the Bridger-Teton National Forest.  The agency finds that as the number of people recreating on Jackson Hole's public lands increases, so has the number of conflicts between user groups.  Conflicts threaten resources and access to public trails.  This project will underwrite the salary for an Educational Trail Ambassador to patrol the Greater Snow King and Teton Pass Areas during the 2007 summer season to promote and educate users about responsible recreation and pro-actively address bad behavior.  The project will also distribute 1,000 free bicycle bells to cyclists and develop, print, and distribute a Trail Ethics Brochure throughout Jackson Hole.  $9,100.00 is requested for this $13,787.00 project. (2007)

Jackson Hole Ski Club

Alpine Safety Grant

$5,641

The Jackson Hole Ski Club provides our local youth an opportunity to participate in competitive skiing activities through their Alpine Ski Program.   The Alpine Program addresses the need for safe, healthy, educational activities for young people in the community.  Keeping athletes, coaches and spectators safe during training sessions and competitions is critical.  Hill protection netting known as B-net is placed throughout the course to ensure safety.  After their most recent championship event, the race Technical Delegate informed the Alpine Program Director that at least half of their netting had deteriorated to the point that it was a safety concern. Funds will be used to purchase thirty rolls of protective netting and one hundred corresponding support poles. (2007)
