Spirit of Old Bill’s Thrives
The Fun Run Keeps Pace in a Weak Economy.
JACKSON, WY October 26, 2009 — In a year when a challenging economy is at the front of everyone’s mind, Monday evening’s Old Bill’s Fun Run awards party provided a dose of optimism. Hundreds of nonprofit representatives and locals gathered at the National Museum of Wildlife Art to learn the results of the fundraiser that is so important to many organizations. As Katharine Conover, President of the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole, announced the final results, the relief was tangible.
“Our community has demonstrated once again that we can rely on one another when times are toughest. Like those who settled this valley, we know that collaboration and camaraderie sustain us,” said Conover. “This year has been one of the most difficult for our local nonprofits, but the entire town has rallied round them.”
A total of 2,461 donors, including more than 1,000 new donors or donors who did not give last year, gave $4,894,444 in designated contributions through Old Bill’s Fun Run 2009. Both numbers represent an increase over last year. Mr. and Mrs. Old Bill, 38 Co-Challengers and the Friends of the Match contributed $2,091,451 that provided matching grants at 53%. Nonprofits received an incredible $6,985,895, nearly even with the 2008 results, to further their missions. Through the event, produced annually by the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole, the community has raised more than $67.5 million dollars to benefit local charities.
